Design Dollies Sketch

I am loving playing along with the Dollies... here is this week's sketch and my take on it.

Nana and I love to play scrabble and other games when we get together... well, the last time we were playing the kids wanted to try. I actually had better words working with Clara then when I play on my own. I actually had 6 letter words; anyway, the kids only lasted about 3-4 turns and then their attention span was done.

Practical Scrappers

Challenge- use lace cardstockI cut out the cardstock using my Cricut and the Storybook Cartridge set to the border function. I then sprayed my cardstock with glimmer mist to give a little glitz to it.
I just love this little owl stamp that I have from Basic Grey.

Scrap That Poetry Challenge #2

Maya Angelou's Phenomenal WomanI created this layout using the title and the last stanza of the poem "Phenomenal Woman".

Here is the last verse:

Now you understand

Just why my head's not bowed.

I don't shout or jump about

or have to talk real loud.

When you see me passing,

I ought to make you proud

I say,

It's the click of my heals,

The bend of my hair,

The need for my care.

'Cause I'm a woman

Phenomenally,

Phenomenal woman,

That's me.

I fell in love with this poem the 1st time that I read it. As a woman, I try to show my self confidence and my love for myself and who I am! I had many verses that I wanted to choose and may still do another layout before the close of the contest... I hope you feel inspired by this poem as well!

I want to dedicate this layout to my mom and grandmother who I feel are phenomenal woman and who helped mold me to be the "phenomenal woman" I feel that I am today!

I also participated in a few other challenges with this layout!

I did the technique challenge on Practical Scrappers by using shaped scissors. I cut the edge off my layout with curvy scissors and then added the border of Jillibean pattern paper.
The next challenge that I participated in was for Crop Addict where they challenged you to use 4 different pattern papers on 1 layout. I used 4 different pattern papers from Jillibean's Kraft line.
Finally, I participated in Design Dollies challenge to use hand stitching on your page.

You Are the Best ThingIt was really easy to choose the lyrics for this layout! I truly believe that Brian is the best thing that happened to me. My life completely changed when I met Brian in college. We immediately became best friends and love bloomed from there!
I love the Jillibean paper lines that I used on this layout as well as the acryllic stamps.

Progress on the porch

Here is the latest picture from today...This weekend, Brian and his dad got a 1/3 of the porch rafters up.
They put up the columns and beams across as well.

What a fantastic day

Well, I have had a fantastic day today... lots of wonderful things... First, I got to spend the morning with Brian and ate my favorite breakfast with the kids- mini cinnamon melts. Then, I got to play with some of my scrapping stuff on Christmas things.

I hopped on the blogs and found out that I won the Marks Paper Company challenge that I entered! Whoo hoo! I can't wait to get those goodies in the mail, I love their paper line. I met the owner who shared a booth with my friend Amy at CKCVF.

This afternoon, I got to scrap at Jenny's house for a Stampin up party. I had so much fun! Buffy, the cards were so beautiful! I enjoyed our time.

I got home and got some amazing news tonight as well. I can't wait to share it... but it won't be until November 1st that I will get to share that news!

Also, checked out my challenge blog and saw we had even more entries!

I am so excited! October 20th will be my 1 year blogiversary!!! I can't wait... I will be giving away some blog candy very soon!

Grateful

I believe in everyday gratitude. I read the book, The Secret, a little over a year ago now. In the book, it tells you how to live a grateful life. Last year, I asked my family to list 10 things they were grateful for and it was difficult for them. I gave them each the book for Christmas to try to help them open up to the idea of everyday gratitude. Here is a layout that I created for Scrap Addict and OLW.

Journaling reads: I am so grateful that I was able to spend the day with my kids at the pumpkin patch. We had a very lovely day!

I created the paper pieced pumpkins that I used as accents.
